Young Women’s Ministries

To empower young women to discover their potential in Christ
and carry out the gospel commission

The 2008 Young Women's Retreat will be held at Camp Frenda May 2 - 4. Details to come.

Objectives

  1. To encourage young women to develop and maintain a close relationship with God.
  2. To foster a strong community among Ontario Adventist young women and a connection within Women’s Ministries at the local church level.
  3. To address some of the significant unique issues facing young women.
  4. To train and equip young women to utilize their gifts in outreach for God’s kingdom.
  5. To reclaim young women who have left the fellowship of the church.

Beginning Young Women’s Ministries In Your Church

The needs of young women beckon the local church to develop ministries that will involve and empower. Older women appreciate the vitality and creativity of young women, while young women need the life experience and mentorship of their elders.

Developmental Steps
Preamble: Experience has demonstrated that organizing YWM is most effective when it is developed under the auspices of women’s ministries. Remember to always look to leadership for support and strength in prayer.

  1. Pray earnestly for God’s guidance.

  2. Share your vision with the local pastor(s) and women’s ministry team; ask this group to pray for the process of the establishment of YWM and clarify the flow of accountability.

  3. Request in writing that the pastor seek conceptual approval from the church board for the development of a YWM.

  4. Form a YWM committee composed of:
    - young women with diversity in age and ethnicity
    - the women’s ministries coordinator and;
    - one mentor (such as a female elder or person of influence who is also a spiritual leader).

  5. Appoint a leader, a prayer coordinator, a communication coordinator (takes minutes, creates advertising, etc), and a treasurer.

  6. Conduct an interest survey among young women in your church to help assess how the unmet needs of the young women in your church may inform the mission and objectives of the organization.

  7. Keep the pastoral team informed of survey results and committee progress and establish liaisons with the prayer and youth leaders.

  8. Build committee consensus on the formulation of a mission statement choosing two or three strong verbs to identify your main goals (such as train, mentor, empower) and two to five objectives.

  9. Develop a ministry focus that predominates in the planning cycle of the organization.

  10. Establish ministries to address the selected objectives. (ie. one biweekly bible study group or support group and a monthly outreach activity such as a puppet ministry for kids in hospitals.)

Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation; old things have passed away;
Behold all things have become new.
