Ontario Conference News

In this edition of the Ontario Conference News, we are highlighting some of the activities of our brothers and sisters across Ontario: 1) Northern Ontario Camp Meeting - picture above and testimonial below, 2) The Children’s Street: Jasper Canyon Experience, children's outreach in Thunder Bay and 3) a new Hispanic congregation in St. Catharines. Let's continue to celebrate the amazing things God is doing in and through us in Ontario Conference!

Northern Ontario Camp Meeting Attendance Exceeds Expectations

Camp Meeting in Northern Ontario. We expected to see fewer attendees but ended up with a little over 90 members and friends who decided to enjoy the opportunity of camping over the Labour Day weekend. We immensely enjoyed listening to the stories and messages from our guest speaker, Dr. Michael Campbell. Dr. Campbell currently holds the position of Director of NAD Archives, Statistics & Research.

We enjoyed gathering and reconnecting with old friends and making new friends. While we had hoped to live-stream our services, we were able to record these services; so they will soon be available on YouTube and Facebook.

We also had a children’s Sabbath School, youth program, mini-concert in the afternoon, and corn roast in the evening. Burman University and Youth Ministries hosted informational booths, and Dr. Hazelwood and Pastor Martin each conducted an afternoon seminar.

We’re already looking forward to next year’s camp meeting!

Children's Street: Jasper Canyon Experience in Thunder Bay Reaches the Community

This event was designed to help kids learn important lessons from nature and the Bible through play and to help parents learn more about our church and mission. After registering, the kids were directed to the snack station to enjoy some snacks and be entertained by our volunteer, Kaja, until we had a group of at least five children. When they were ready to explore the Jasper Canyon, the children were invited to each station, where members of our church were ready with a short presentation and game/activity.

While the kids were going through their stations (four stations - 10 mins. each), we had another four stations ready for adults, including a NEWSTART presentation. In addition, our nurses offered them some essential medical services (blood pressure, magazines, etc.). They could also visit the ADRA Station and, finally, the Pathfinders and Adventurers Station, which featured a short presentation and the chance to register their kids for our local Pathfinder and Adventurer Clubs.

Every hour, we offered prizes for the kids registered for the event. Most prizes were school supplies, and the grand prize was a tablet.

All the parents and kids were super excited, and many asked us if we would have another event next summer.

I thank God for all 38+ volunteers who helped on that day and others who helped prepare all decorations and materials before the event. We were also grateful that City Hall was very open and willing to approve our event and provide us with all the necessary information and support.

This was a great experience that we, as a local church, had with God, due not only to the unexpected success of the event but also to the weather. Two days before the event, the forecast was an 80% chance of rain that Sunday. The night before, it dropped to 50%, and that morning, it fell again to a 15% chance of rain. Fortunately, we didn’t see any drop of rain that day. God is awesome!

The Ontario Conference has partnered with ADRA to provide further assistance to those displaced as a result of the war in Ukraine. Ukrainian refugees coming to or within Ontario can receive financial support of a minimum of $2,000 per family. Churches may apply for these funds to help provide support in the areas where government funding falls short.

Though this funding cannot duplicate the Canadian government’s efforts, it can be used to assist with other community-centred projects and initiatives.

To apply, please submit the completed application form (Click Here) on behalf of your church. Applications should be submitted to

May God bless your efforts as you venture out in faith to share the love of Jesus. You are constantly in our prayers.
