Celebrating a Milestone: Ottawa Central Becomes a Church
January 14, 2026 | Cortney Smith| Ottawa Central Seventh-day Adventist Church
“The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.” — Laozi
Such was the journey of the former Lily of the Valley Seventh-day Adventist Company. Formally recognised as a Group by the Ontario Conference in February 2005, it advanced to Company status in February 2010. Fifteen years later, on November 8, 2025, this faithful body of believers reached a significant milestone when it was officially granted church status.
To commemorate this historic achievement, a special worship service was planned. The occasion required careful planning and coordination among various church departments and leaders from the Ontario Conference. A planning committee was therefore established, bringing together representatives from Music, Media, Social Committee, Sabbath School, the Elders, and Pastor Didier Fourny. After months of preparation, the long-awaited day finally arrived. There was a sense of expectancy in the air as history was about to be made.
The service began with a review of the Sabbath School lesson. Conference guests, visitors, and members from neighbouring Adventist churches were in attendance. The church was beautifully decorated, reflecting the significance of the occasion and the congregation's gratitude.
Shortly thereafter, the main service commenced and unfolded smoothly according to schedule. Musical selections complemented the program, enhancing the worship experience. A particularly meaningful segment was the historical report, which traced the church’s journey from its inception to the present day. Several moments stood out during the service, notably the Vows, the Monetary Gift, the Sermon Charge, and the Call to Support.
During the Vows, members of the newly organised Ottawa Central Seventh-day Adventist Church publicly pledged their commitment to their responsibilities as a body of believers and to their relationship with one another, the church, the conference, and God. This call-and-response segment was facilitated by Pastor Sereivudh Ly, Director of Church Growth, Church Planting, and Evangelism.
A monetary gift was then presented by the Ontario Conference Treasurer, Virene Meikle, and graciously received by the local church treasurer. This generous gesture was deeply appreciated by the church membership.
As anticipated, the sermon was a highlight of the day. The charge was delivered by the Vice-President of Administration, Pastor Emile Maxi, who challenged the newly organised church to remain focused on Christ’s mission, avoid complacency, and continue expanding its territory, with a particular emphasis on educational growth.
The service concluded with a call for all present—members and aspiring members alike—to come forward in solidarity and support of the Ottawa Central Seventh-day Adventist Church. A prayer of dedication and commitment, invoking God’s continued blessings, was offered by the Ministerial Secretary, Pastor Frankie Lazarus.
Following the service, members, guests, and visitors gathered in the Fellowship Hall to enjoy a wonderful meal together.
It was truly a memorable and blessed day. “To God be the glory, great things He hath done!”
