A Journey of Faith and Footsteps: 150 Master Guides Conquer Tommy Thompson Park
Posted: April 1st, 2026

The air was crisp, the sun was radiant, and the spirit of adventure filled the day as 150 Master Guides, trainees, Adventurers, and Pathfinders gathered at Tommy Thompson Park in Toronto on Sunday, March 29, 2026. Organised by the Ontario Conference Master Guide Council, this 15.8 km trek was more than just a physical challenge; it was a deep dive into the "book of nature" and a masterclass in spiritual resilience.
Skyline Views and Sacred Lessons
Stretching out into Lake Ontario, the trail offered a "to die for" view of the Toronto skyline. But while the glass towers of the city glimmered in the distance, the real focus was on the horizon of faith. As the waves of the Great Lake lapped against the shore, hikers paused to reflect on the Christian walk.
Much like the restless waters, our lives are often tossed by the winds of trial. Yet, as Ellen G. White beautifully reminds us:
"The heart that is in harmony with God is a partaker of the peace of heaven, and its influence will be felt by all around it."
We discussed how, like the waves, we must remain constant in our purpose, driven forward by the "tide" of the Holy Spirit, even when the winds of life attempt to drive us off course.
Nature’s Classroom: Beyond the Compass
The hike served as a rugged classroom where participants sharpened their survival skills. We mastered the art of:
- Traditional Orienteering: Learning the precise mechanics of the compass.
- Natural Navigation: Discerning directions using the sun, shadows, and environmental cues when no tools are at hand.
Amid these lessons, the park's local residents made their appearances. A majestic red-tailed falcon circled overhead, while beavers worked diligently in the marshy inlets, reminding us of the intricate design of the Creator. From the smallest bugs to the soaring raptors, every creature told a story of divine craftsmanship.
Endurance and Fellowship
The 15.8 km journey tested the endurance of both the youngest Pathfinders and the most seasoned Master Guides alike. Yet, through shared sweat and the "beautiful day" provided by the Lord, the bond of the Ontario Conference grew stronger.
"Nature testifies of God. The susceptible mind, brought in contact with the miracle and mystery of the universe, cannot but recognise the working of infinite power." — Ellen G. White
As we reached the end of the trail, tired but inspired, we carried home more than just photos of the skyline. We left with a renewed sense of direction—both for the woods and for our walk with Christ.
