Bramalea at 40: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future

The Bramalea Filipino-Canadian Seventh-day Adventist Church celebrated its 40th anniversary on Sabbath, September 27, 2025. The celebration culminated a week-long series of events that included worship, testimonies, music, and recommitment, all held under the theme “Journeying Together in Faith.” This milestone event brought together past and present members, friends, and former pastors who returned to Bramalea throughout the week to preach, reflect, and bless the church's next chapter. Pastor Isagani Valencia, who currently serves as the Ministerial Secretary and Vice President for NDR-IEL of the Singapore Adventist Conference, delivered the keynote message on Sabbath. He stated, “God shows the way, God leads the way, and God makes the way.”
Founded on September 27, 1985, the original 72 charter members have developed into a vibrant, multi-generational community known for its warm hospitality, strong family ministries, youth involvement, and hands-on service initiatives. These initiatives encompass a range of activities, including nursing home visitations, health education, and community support programs. The 40th anniversary served as a sacred moment to reflect on God’s guidance, honour the pioneers who laid the foundation, and empower the children and youth who will shape the future over the next four decades.
A memorable part of the anniversary celebration was the dedication of the Appreciation Plaque, which honours the 72 charter members and pioneers whose vision, sacrifice, and dedicated efforts contributed to the acquisition of land and the eventual completion of the church building. During the worship service, German Santos unveiled the plaque, Malu Juricki read the dedicatory message, and Pastor Leo Launio offered a prayer for the pioneers and their families. Accepting the plaque on behalf of the charter members and pioneers, Dr. Roly Corpus remarked, “This belongs to Him, but we would be glad to keep it.”
During the fellowship lunch, members and friends had the opportunity to explore the historical and Pathfinder displays, which showcased old photographs, trophies, uniforms, church bulletins, and even groundbreaking shovels. The celebration continued with an afternoon concert featuring choirs, ensembles, and soloists from various churches across the Greater Toronto Area. The repertoire included uplifting hymns, contemporary praise music, instrumental pieces, and cultural favourites that reflected the congregation's Filipino heritage and the broader Canadian community. The afternoon program also featured videos from the Panay mission trip, the grand social event, and inspiring testimonies from Mely Atiga, Maria David, and Janice Pittman.
In his last message, Pastor Isagani Valencia challenged the congregation with an inspiring message titled “Follow the Lamb.” He said, “If Satan can’t tempt you with good things, he will tempt you with the hardships of life,” or vice versa.
One of the most poignant moments was the “Passing on the Torch” Ceremony, a symbolic act that brought together representatives from every generation—children, youth, young adults, adults, and older adults—to receive and share the light of faith. Led by responsive readings, the ceremony reflected the church’s commitment to intergenerational discipleship.
Countless pictorials followed the afternoon program to remind the next generation of God’s faithfulness, grace, and steadfast love. Happy 40th anniversary, Bramalea!
