A significant Truth and Reconciliation event recently took place at the Sudbury District Jail. This gathering brought together community members, faith leaders, and local officials to acknowledge historical injustices and promote healing and unity as we work toward a more harmonious future. The Seventh-day Adventist Church played a crucial role in advocating for Indigenous people, emphasizing the importance of unity and understanding.
In his devotional message, Pastor Frank Loo, the Provincial Chaplaincy Coordinator, shared a moving testimony of personal transformation. He spoke of how God led him from a place of brokenness and into a life of purpose, calling him to serve as a pastor and chaplain. Today, he devotes his life to guiding others on their own journeys of faith and renewal.
Pastor Elvis highlighted the importance of truth-telling in the healing process, stating, "Truth-telling is a vital step toward healing and reconciliation. Let us work to create environments where truth can be expressed, where wounds can be healed, and where reconciliation can become a reality."
The event concluded with an awards ceremony where Chaplain Olalekan, a member of the Sudbury Adventist Church, honoured Indigenous individuals who have made significant contributions to the Sudbury community, particularly within the jail. This gesture recognized their hard work and dedication to promoting positive change.
Notable attendees included Pastor Frank Loo, city officials from the City of Greater Sudbury, and community leaders who continue to champion reconciliation efforts.
The day ended with a warm fellowship meal, allowing participants to share stories, reflect on the experience, and strengthen bonds across cultures and communities—a fitting conclusion to a day rooted in truth, respect, and hope for lasting reconciliation.
