When the World Shakes Stay the Course

Recent news about the escalating trade war has stirred up anxiety across communities—ours included. For many church members, the implications feel deeply personal. Concerns about jobs, retirement savings, rising mortgage costs, and even delayed or cancelled travel plans are no longer abstract fears. They are unsettling realities that can weigh heavily on hearts.
No one likes uncertainty. However, as prices rise and markets shift, the sense of instability grows, leaving us wondering what comes next - but as disturbing as these moments are, Jesus is not silent about them.
In Matthew 24:6, He said, “And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.”
Jesus never promised that these times would be easy. But He did tell us to expect them—and not to be afraid.
That doesn’t mean the stress isn’t real, or that the pain of financial hardship or job insecurity won’t affect us. What it means is that we are not alone, and our hope is not in the stability of the market but in the unshakeable foundation of Christ.
In Jesus, we always have hope—hope that we will get through this situation, no matter how difficult it becomes. Why? In the book of Revelation, He makes it abundantly clear. His will in people will prevail (See Revelation 21:7 – “He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.”)
So, as we endure a trade war we did not start, and as we go through hardships we did not cause, remember to pray, not just for relief but for perspective. Because in this time of chaos, Jesus may use you as a witness to someone who is struggling to hold on and who needs a word of hope, a person of faith to help them find hope. A hope that only Jesus can give.
Let’s not forget these promises:
“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:7
“In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” – John 14:2
Focusing on these truths doesn’t make hard times disappear. But it does make them bearable. It keeps our feet steady and our eyes forward.
No matter how turbulent things get, this world is not our final home. All of this—the struggle, the stress, the uncertainty—is temporary.
In the end, Jesus will still be King, and by His grace, you and I will make it home.
