Waiting, Watching, Working: Camp Meeting Brings Nearly 1,000 Believers Together
Posted: June 3rd, 2026

Nearly 1,000 members and friends gathered on May 29-30, 2026, for a spiritually uplifting Camp Meeting in Southern Ontario, centred around the theme “Waiting, Watching, Working.” The event provided a meaningful opportunity for worship, fellowship, spiritual renewal, and a deeper commitment to Christ's mission.
The weekend began on Friday evening at the Simcoe Seventh-day Adventist Church, where attendees were welcomed by the inspiring music of the local bluegrass gospel group, River of Life. Their songs prepared hearts for worship and set the tone for the weekend. Following the musical program, Pastor Jakov Bibulović, President of the Ontario Conference, delivered the first message of the series, focusing on the theme of Waiting.
Throughout the weekend, Pastor Bibulović developed the three-part theme through a series of practical and Christ-centred messages. Sabbath morning's presentation explored the importance of Watching, while the evening service challenged believers to remain actively engaged in Working for God's kingdom as they await Christ's return.
One of the concepts that resonated deeply with many attendees was Pastor Bibulović's explanation of the Hebrew word qavah (קָוָה ). Although often translated as "to wait," "to look for," or "to hope," the word carries a richer meaning of being bound together like strands of a cord. Through this illustration, participants were reminded that waiting on God is not a passive activity but an active relationship that draws believers into a closer connection with Him.
Among the many memorable moments of the weekend, one stood out repeatedly in conversations with attendees. During the Sabbath morning service, Pastor Bibulović invited the congregation to form small groups and pray together. The groups specifically prayed for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, asking God to prepare His people for the soon return of Jesus Christ and to equip them to fulfill the mission entrusted to the church through the Great Commission.
Many participants later shared that this was one of the most meaningful experiences of the entire Camp Meeting. The opportunity to pray together created a powerful sense of unity and purpose. Several attendees remarked that the experience strengthened both their relationship with God and their connection with fellow believers.
The Camp Meeting also featured a special afternoon concert following the Sabbath lunch break. Choirs, soloists, and musicians from various churches came together to praise God through music. The program showcased the many talents found throughout churches in Southern Ontario and beyond and served as a reminder of the joy that comes from worshiping together.
Special programming was also provided for youth, who participated in their own age-appropriate meetings during the Sabbath morning hours. These gatherings allowed young people to engage with biblical themes in ways that were relevant and meaningful to their lives.
Adding to the traditional camp meeting atmosphere was the opportunity to stay on-site throughout the weekend. Numerous families and individuals camped in tents and recreational vehicles, enjoying extended fellowship beyond the scheduled programs. Shared meals, conversations, and time spent together helped strengthen friendships and foster a sense of community among attendees.
When asked what they appreciated most about Camp Meeting, many participants gave a similar answer: the opportunity to reconnect with friends they had not seen for months or even years. While the messages and music were deeply appreciated, the fellowship among believers proved to be one of the greatest blessings of the weekend. Camp Meeting served as a reminder that the church is not simply a collection of congregations but a family united by faith, hope, and mission.
The weekend concluded with a moving appeal. Pastor Bibulović invited those who wished to come forward for a final prayer. Stepping down from the platform, he joined the congregation at the front and offered a heartfelt prayer of dedication and commitment. It was a fitting conclusion to a weekend focused on preparing God's people to wait faithfully, watch prayerfully, and work diligently until Christ returns.
As participants returned home, they carried with them renewed encouragement, deeper spiritual conviction, and a stronger sense of unity. Bringing together nearly 1,000 believers from across the province, the Camp Meeting was a powerful reminder that God continues to lead His people forward. We praise Him for the blessings received throughout the weekend and look forward to continuing the work He has called us to do as we wait, watch, and work for His soon-coming kingdom.
